… My version of materialism is “indeterminate materialism,” meaning that matter is indeterminate, just as the quote you read, and something indeterminate does not have an essence, so movement preceeds the essence for sure. Harman would say that I am reducing the world to indeterminate fluctuations. He says that flux is a lump of stuff. That is what he thinks energetic quantum fluctuations are. But Harman does not understand what quantum fluctuations are. It is not a substance. Energy is not a substance. No physicist will tell you that energy is a substance. Especially on the quantum scale, you are not dealing with substance. The whole point of quantum indeterminacy is that it is indeterminate, and Harman calls that a reduction, but what are you reducing matter to? Something indeterminate?  That cannot be a reduction. That’s like saying I am reducing things to something irreducible. You can say the words, but it makes no sense. Energy is not a lump. That is ridiculous …
